I finally did it, I completely ditched the Adobe suite of products, after I made this decision I figured it was the perfect opportunity to sharpen my skills. So I did what I have done for these challenges and pulled a prompt from Sharpen. The prompt I received was to design a launch ad for a gym in Saint Lucia and try Minimalist styling. I love minimalist styling so I knew this project would be fun. First and foremost I wanted to assemble a mood board, starting with minimalist gym logos for reference, some attributes, some shots of St. Lucia, and of course their flag.
Since this is a minimalist ad I wanted the sketches to mirror this starting with logo ideations and adding simple phrases like “Gym” and “Fitness” I ended up focussing on option 3 as I transitioned to the screen to start with the digital designs.
Saint Lucia is a country with a tropical climate, beautiful beaches, breathtaking mountains, and a rich lush rainforest. Plus relating to the fitness theme they made a splash in the 2024 Paris Olympics with Julien Alfred winning the women's 100m in an upset. I wanted the design of both the logo and the ad to mirror this passion, and the motion that was on display when their olympic team took to the track in 2024. I took the mountain symbol from the flag, and took out the white chevron that sits atop the mountain to cut out the “fat” then separated the yellow mountain from the black chevron to create an area of negative space. This combined with the shear effect added to both the text and the logo creates motion in the composition to symbolize your speed and power that you can elevate with a membership at Elevate.
